Weather services under Weatherproof trademark are offered by the Finnish
Meteorological Institute (FMI).
The FMI is a leading research institute in the field of atmosphere.
Besides rich in tradition since 1838 and recognized as a high-quality research
institute, FMI is also a dynamic service organisation providing the
first rate weather services for business users and the general public alike.
Professional users are provided with land, sea and aviation weather services.
Services for the general public comprise weather forecasts for TVs, radios,
newspapers, Internet and mobile weather services.
In mobile weather sector, the FMI was the first to build commercial
SMS services in 1995 and launched the first commercial WAP weather services
in 1999. Lately the FMI has been concentrating on building intelligence
in mobile weather services, including weather alert services and weather
on demand push services tailored for each customer's special needs.
The FMI is especially proud of its' production system. Weather services
are automatically and dynamically produced and make use of the FMI's own
data sources. A production system enabling the meteorologist to produce
more accurate versions of numerical models gives the FMI an ability to
create unlimited number of products on an hourly basis. The more accurate
data are relayed to a real-time database and can instantly be incorporated
into the entire product range, for example dynamically produce mobile weather
services in eleven languages.
